The Chincoteague Pony Pedigree Database was started in 2015 as is the fulfillment of a longtime dream of Amanda Geci to have a community pedigree database for Chincoteague Ponies. The breed has needed a central database of this kind. Because of the Chincoteague Pony's history and feral origins much of this information is scattered and hard to find. Most all other breeds have a database of some kind to collect and share this type of information.

The goal of the CPPD is to collect and preserve as many Chincoteague Pony pedigrees and associated data as possible. As such database records are not complete and are frequently being updated. The hope is to one day be able to offer a picture of the breed past, present, and future through the collected data. We also hope to be able to utilize the CPPD to connect Chincoteague Ponies with identities or parentage that had been lost. The information in the CPPD is here to be shared with everyone interested in the Chincoteague Pony and to preserve it for the generations to come.

In 2021 the Chincoteague Pony Pedigree Database became part of the International Chincoteague Pony Association & Registry (ICPAR). The CPPD is the basis of the ICPAR's registry. Ponies do not have to be registered with the ICPAR or any registry to be submitted to the database. Ponies being in the database does not mean they are registered with the ICPAR. ICPAR registered ponies have the ICPAR logo on their database record. Other registries are listed by name on the record.

Disclaimers

The pedigrees in the CPPD are correct to the best of our knowledge. Please keep in mind that this database is a work in progress and unintentional inaccuracies may have been entered. The data will continually become more accurate as the database is improved. There is no guarantee that the data contained in the database is accurate. Offspring lists are incomplete and auction records are only complete up to 2010. To keep some control over the ponies in the database only admins of the website are allowed to enter information into the database. When you submit information to add to the database, please make sure that the information is correct, accurate and up-to-date. The CPPD reserves the right to make changes without notice.

The information in the CPPD is free for its users. The textual material may be reproduced, republished and redistributed for any purpose personal and commercial. Using it does not create any contract or other liability between you and the CPPD or someone else. The CPPD is not responsible for any injury or damage caused by incorrect information in the database.

When submitting photos if you do not hold the copyright you must obtain permission from the copyright holder or from the person who has rights to use the photo. If you find an image on a website, please check with the site owner first before uploading the image. Remember that the site owner may not own the copyright to an image they make available and that you may need to make other inquiries in order to use the image. You are responsible for not violating someone else's rights. If you find a photo that has been used without permission we will remove immediately at the copyright owner's request. It is not CPPD's intent to infringe on copyright. This is a not-for-profit database designed to preserve and share information about Chincoteague Ponies. Information about ponies/horses is not copyrighted nor is it private information. Anyone can add a pony or edit the information about a pony including the name, titles, date of birth, etc. The owner or the breeder of a pony does not have the exclusive right to decide whether the information of his/her pony can be added to a database.
